Dusk with a Dangerous Duke

Alexandra Hawkins

They were children when the Duke of Huntsley was introduced to Lady Grace Kearly. The young duke—nicknamed “Hunter”—took one look at his future bride and thought only of escaping his responsibilities to his family. Marriage was for grown-ups and Hunter still had years of skirt-chasing ahead of him. But now the time has come for Hunter to heed the call: if this Lord of Vice hopes to keep all of his inheritance, he’ll have to claim his long-neglected betrothed…

With her twenty-first birthday approaching, Lady Grace dreads the thought of marrying the duke she has met only once—especially since he’s grown into a notorious rake who will probably beget his heir and abandon her in the country while he pursues fresh game in London. So when Lady Grace coolly decides to call the wedding off, even Hunter is surprised by his refusal to let her go. Suddenly, the notion of claiming and taming this green-eyed beauty is one challenge he cannot resist…

MY THOUGHTS:

DUSK WITH A DANGEROUS DUKE by Alexandra Hawkins is an exciting Historical Romance 1825 London. #6 in the famous “Lords of Vice” series, but can be read as a stand alone. The Lords of Vice live for the thrill of the hunt, even after they are caught by their beloved ladies. This is Lady Grace Kearly and the Duke of Huntsley (Hunter)’s story. And what a story! Betrothed as children, Hunter runs off, but in order to keep his inheritance he and Grace MUST marry within an allotted time frame or lose his inheritance. So he must marry Grace and soon. But Grace has had years of waiting for him to appear and is re-thinking marriage to the notorious rake and womanizer.

But when Hunter and Grace finally met all grown-up, what follows is passion, charm, challenges, and romance. Both romantic and erotic, the Lords of Vice series is exciting, intriguing and well worth the time to read. A must for sure. Can Hunter charm Grace into following though with their wedding plans or will she run away? I have read this entire series and can honestly say it was a blast to read and look forward to Ms. Hawkins next grand adventure. I am waiting for Frost’s story. While, all of these gentleman, I say that kindly, for they where all notorious Rakes, and womanizers with tortured souls to say the least. The “Lord of Vice” series is worth the time to read.  Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Let’s travel to Kenya! Number five in this exciting series travels to Africa to learn about the thrilling country of Kenya. This extraordinary book “If You Were Me and Lived in…Kenya- A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World” explores life for children on a new continent. The book touches on many familiar topics such as names, money, games, and food as well the sites and sounds that come with living in Africa. Embraced by educators, parents, and children, the series gently and respectfully introduces the subjects of cultures and customs around the world. On “If You Were Me and Lived in…South Korea”: “Roman has proven her skill at writing children’s books with her Captain No Beard series, as well as with the other volumes in her cultural series. If you were me and lived in …South Korea uses a technique of speaking directly to the child reading or listening, similar to Laura Numeroff’s If You Give a…series. This strategy is well suited to a book about foreign cultures as it gives little imaginations a boost by helping children envision themselves growing up with customs and traditions different from the ones they’re familiar with…” Peter Dabbene ForeWord Reviews Clarion Review On “If You Were Me and Lived in…France”: “It is the simplistic and positive way that Roman,a former social studies teacher, delivers the text, that makes this series appealing-the books are short and to the point and just what you want when you’re introducing geography and culture to the youngest reading set.” Bianca Schulz-The Children’s Book review.

MY THOUGHTS:

IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN….KENYA: A CHILD’S INTRODUCTION TO CULTURE AROUND THE WORLD by CAROLE P. ROMAN is an interesting Children’s book/Culture.

“I liked this book because it tells you how life would be if you lived in Kenya. I like the pictures. I would recommend this book for children ages 7 and older. I gave this book a 4 because it teaches you a lot and has very, very good pictures.”

This title was written and reviewed by a nine year, but as her grandmother I totally agree.

Ms. Roman has written a simple but educational story. A wonderful read! Received for an honest review from the author.

MY THOUGHTS:
MY NOTORIOUS HIGHLANDER by Vonda Sinclair is an intriguing and exciting  Scottish Historical Romance set in 1619 Scotland. #5 in the “Highland Adventure” series, but can be read as a stand alone. See,” My Fierce Highlander”, “My Wild Highlander”, “My Brave Highlander” and “My Daring Highlander”. I absolutely loved this story! Follow Chief Torrin MacLeod,Lady Jessie MacKay and Gregor MacBain on a journey of danger, passion, secrets, deception, betrayal and love. Torrin vows to make Jessie is wife, but Gregor has other plans. Gregor, was hand-fasted to Jessie formerly, but throw her aside for another, now he wants and needs her back under his thumb. He is also a cruel man.  But Torrin has other plans, for he has loved her from afar.
Oh, did I mention Jessie’s younger brother, Haldane, who just happens to be an outlaw, a murderer and wants to use Jessie to take over the castle from his older brother? If you enjoy fast paced, action packed Highland adventure than “My Notorious Highlander” is definitely the read for you. The characters are engaging, charismatic, and fierce. The storyline is intriguing, dangerous and will have you turning pages faster than you can say Highlander. Oh, for a moment or two I was spellbound, as Torrin has to save Jessie over and over. How many will die in the process of Haldane and Gregor’s revenge and hatred? Hatred can turn the most beloved family member into a horrid brother, who is only after his own gain.  A deliciously sexy story of love, family, revenge, and forgiveness. For action, thrills, and passion pick up “My Notorious Highlander”.  I loved it! Well done, indeed! I love Highlanders  and their lasses and this was no disappointment. A not to miss story! MY THOUGHTS:

LEGEND OF THE HIGHLAND DRAGON by Isabel Cooper is an exciting Victorian Historical Paranormal/Fantasy set in 1894 England. #1 in the “Highland Dragons” series. What do you get when you cross a two hundred plus year-old Highland Dragon with a ambitious secretary? Why TROUBLE, of course. Mina Seymour is no mild mattered secretary, she lives to investigate and when Lord Stephen MacAlasdair enters her employer’s office with a huge problem. An old enemy is back and with magical powers. Fast paced and filled with sensual tension, secrets, shape-shifters, dragons, danger, suspense and passion. Fantastic characters who are engaging as well as charming. A sizzling attraction that builds, but, I am afraid, I was a little disappointed when it finally came to be. If you enjoy dragons, secrets, Victorian England, Highlanders and romance than “Legend of the Highland Dragon” is a read for you to enjoy. Once again, Ms. Cooper has entertained her readers with a story that has fantasy, legends, Scottish myths, and romance. And of course a bit of magical powers. What more can you ask for in the story? A great read! If you enjoy Donna Grant’s Dark Warriors series, I believe you will enjoy Ms. Cooper’s “Highland Dragons” series as well. Give it a try, if you have not already.  Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley.

That’s great when someone’s buying you a round, but not so hot when you find yourself atop a list of murder suspects–with your fingerprints on the bloody knife!Mackenzie “Mack” Dalton is a Milwaukee bar owner with a nose for trouble–literally. A neurological glitch has left her with extra perceptive senses. So when she stumbles upon a dead body in the alley behind the bar–the same spot where her own father was shot eight months earlier–she can tell right away there’s something fishy in the air. The lead detective thinks there’s a link between the two deaths, and he’ll need Mack’s help to sniff out the murderer amid the crowd of eccentric regulars. But when all the evidence points to her as the most likely culprit, it could be an early last call for Mack–and celebratory cocktails for a killer.

Includes drink recipes

MY THOUGHTS:

MURDER ON THE ROCKS by Allyson K. Abbott is an interesting Cozy Mystery set at Mack’s Bar, in Milwaukee. #1 in “A Mack’s Bar Mystery”. With murder, cocktails, and a killer, what can go wrong? Everything! Follow Mackenzie “Mack” Dalton on a trail of murder suspects including herself. Mack has a medical condition, a neurological condition, called Synesthesia. It leaves her with perceptive senses, she can sense when something has been moved or it affects her feel, taste, smell, and so forth, so when she finds a dead body behind her bar,Mack’s Bar, in all places, where her father was murdered eight months prior….well, she knows something is adrift.

Enter….Detective Duncan Albright.

Eccentric regulars to say the least are among the suspects,as well as, Mack herself. Cocktails or murder? or both? Fast paced with charming characters and an interesting storyline. And of course Duncan and Mack has a little love interest going on amidst all the action. Filled with danger, sabotage, mystery, and more than one murder. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, I would suggest reading “Murder on the Rocks”. An interesting new series, I hope to see Duncan and Mack’s interest progress to more in the future. The book also has some drink recipes in the back, if you are interested.  Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Yvette Hamilton knows just what she wants for Christmas–a dazzling marriage. But one accomplished rake has other, much more tempting ideas. . .

The illegitimate son of a duke, Lord Jeffrey Eddington knows society will never truly respect him. He thought he’d found acceptance as a friend of the Hamiltons, but Yvette’s seeming snobbery makes him wager to win her hand no matter what it takes. Too late, he finds her frivolity conceals an intelligent, appealing woman. Now they face a hard choice between the holiday dreams they think they want most. . .and the very real love they can’t resist.

MY THOUGHTS:

HIS BY CHRISTMAS by Kaitlin O’Riley is a wonderful Victorian Historical Romance set in 1878 London. A most delightful holiday read! Lord Jeffrey Eddington,is the illegitimate son of a Duke, and friend of the Hamiltons and Yvette Hamilton, who wants a dazzling marriage, find themselves in a race to make their holiday dreams come true. While, this is #5 in the “Hamilton Sisters”, it can be read as a stand alone. I had no trouble catching up with this series. I plan to read the others also. Yvette, is intelligent, sexy, but pretends to be frivolous. While, Lord Jeffrey knows he will never be accepted in society due to his illegitimacy, it still doesn’t stop him from his dreams. His father, the Duke of Eddington accepted him as his son year prior, you see he truly loved Jeffrey’s mother. With the festive season, dreams can come true. Fast paced and a very interesting read, it is filled with passion, decisions, and love. This is the final in the “Hamilton Sisters” series. For an added touch you will be surprised by Jeffrey’s father and mother at the end of the story. Ms. O’Riley brought all the characters together nicely and this is a delicious read for one and all. A truly festive read! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

MY THOUGHTS:

LAIRD OF BALLANCLAIRE by Jackie Ivie is another fantastic Scottish Historical Romance set in 1771 Scotland. Fast paced and filled with seduction, rebellion, betrayal, deception and passion.  Revolutionary War romance at its best. However, it does have sadness, heartbreak as well as romance and love. Everything you could possibly want in a romance. Filled with a bit of danger mixed into the story. I loved this story, the prince and the female pauper! I did have a hard time at first understanding the deception that Kameron Ballan, heir to the Laird of Ballanclaire and his fiesty Constant Ridgely do in order to save their children and their forbidden marriage. Although, they where not alone in their deception to fool Kameron’s father.  From the American Colonies to the Scotland you will not be disappointed in the tale of the  Laird of Ballanclaire and his beloved Constant. Overall, this is a must read story of following your desires, passion and dreams in order to find your true happiness. Star-crossed lovers, may just find their HEA ending, after all! Engaging and likeable characters, well some of them anyway. And an intriguing storyline. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Andrew Alexander will do anything to protect those he loves…

After a tragic yachting accident leaves him wracked with guilt and despair, Andrew Alexander becomes certain he doesn’t deserve to be around his own family, let alone the beautiful, forthright Astrid Worthington. He wanders for years, only allowing himself respite from his self-imposed exile when he thinks Astrid safely married. He returns home to find instead that the only woman he’s ever loved has been recently—and mysteriously—widowed.

MY THOUGHTS:

ANDREW: LORD OF DESPAIR by Grace Burrowes is another exciting  Regency Historical Romance. #7 in the “Lonely Lords” series, but can be read as a stand alone. Although, Andrew’s brother, Gareth was in an earlier story,Andrew is guilt ridden with not only grief but with regrets from a tragic yachting accident that took five of his family members along with his brother Gareth’s fiancee. He is filled with guilt and despair. Than along comes…..Astrid, who is pregnant, widowed, and just may be in trouble.

Andrew, has sworn off marrying, he believes he would be a terrible husband and father. But Astrid has loved him from afar for years. Together, they just may heal each other. Astrid is in danger of losing her life as well as the life of her unborn child, someone is trying to eliminate her. While, Andrew can not stand by and watch her or her unborn child hurt, he will do what he has to to save her.

Fast paced and filled with intrigue, suspense, mystery, passion and finally Andrew learns the truth of the yachting accident that cost him and his family so much grief and gains forgiveness and healing. I thoroughly enjoy Ms.  Burrowes’ stories.  This is an intriguing series of Lonely Lords and their true loves. Each story is well written, with engaging, charming, flawed characters as well as suspenseful and intriguing storylines. Another hit by this author.
