Description (Courtesy of Goodreads)

Brilliant art appraiser Alex Northrop’s ex used stolen art to fund his nefarious activities. Now he wants her dead. But it isn’t just herself she’s worried about – if he discovers who she really is, he’ll kill her family.

Professor Henry Chilton is shocked to find a beautiful stranger passed out in his bed, and even more so when she reveals a priceless painting is a forgery – the painting he’d planned to use to fund a woman’s shelter. She’s mysterious and frightened, and he is determined to discover why.

Alex’s knowledge of art is undeniable—just as Henry’s attraction to her is irresistible. But in order to help him recover the real painting, Alex isn’t just risking exposure…she’s risking her life.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book!  I found myself reading it whenever I had a free moment.  The story was filled with unique situations, interesting characters, suspense and a tender love story. Key plot points were very well developed and rolled out at just the right pace to keep the tension high without moving too slowly and boring the reader.  Alex is damaged but no typical victim.  She hasn’t lost her tough edge and her intellect keeps her a step ahead of her ex.  She’s got a talent like few others and is completely confident in her abilities which I found highly appealing.  Henry appears every bit the English gentleman to the extent that it never occurs to Alex that his Navy time was anything other than mundane.  Villains don’t come much more despicable than Luc and his thugs. Nicola and Simon are also very interesting and their subplot is well woven into the main story.  All the pieces of this story weave together in a very believable way. I highly recommend this book to lovers of any genre.

December 8, 2014
When her interior decorating project goes awry in L.A., Aubrey Carpenter “hides out” in the Midwest to finish customizing her sister’s motor coach. Mitch McKenna balks at her presence, fearing she’ll figure out his heart’s not in the job. He’s given up sitting for the bar exam to help his brothers get their fledgling motor coach business off the ground—since they sacrificed to get him through school—but he doesn’t want them to know how much this decision has cost him. To stay, Aubrey must agree to a list of ridiculous work conditions. Little does she realize the “sleepover clause” on her own list will throw her into the brothers’ lives, force her to confront her legal issues, and expose her to the love of a lifetime.

My Thoughts

THE SLEEPOVER CLAUSE was a fun read.  The characters are very likable and Barrett’s prose is smooth and entertaining.  Aubrey’s reason for running, the clauses Mitch and his brothers create and some of scenes were a little awkward but not off-putting.  I liked Mitch and Aubrey and found the sexual tension interesting. I became invested in Aubrey’s story and cheered her and Mitch on.

Emma and her twin brother, Danny, managed to escape the horrors of their childhood and their abusive father when they were sixteen. They have spent the last seven years trying to survive the world and build a better future. When Emma starts a promising new job at the Alexander Marketing Corporation she meets the boss and CEO, Trace Alexander. The chemistry is instantaneous and, although they try to fight the inappropriate attraction, they tumble headlong into a scorching affair. Soon after, menacing events and threats on Emma’s life have them believing that their abusive father has finally found them and wants to punish her for leaving. One bad decision places Emma in the hands of the man she has been running from and threatens her very life.

My Thoughts

SURVIVING is a very well written, highly entertaining book.  The characters are realistic, the story compelling and the romance touching.  Leigh snags the reader immediately with the intense, horrible situation young Danny and Emma find themselves in.  These kids are so good despite the horrible things happening to them.  Skip ahead to find they have not only survived their heartbreaking childhood but educated themselves.  Despite a recent set back, yet another evil Emma must overcome, she is working on a career.  Her past doesn’t cripple her but of course affects her deeply. Enter Trace Alexander, her sexy new boss.  He sees promise in Emma and more.  He knows better but can’t stay away. Trace is there for Emma in every way including facing the demon reemerging from her past.

The rich, privileged businessman, the poor but bright young girl, the roommate and small, inexpensive apartment, the Seattle setting all were reminiscent of Fifty Shades of Grey – minus the kink.  These similarities don’t distract from the book in any way though.  I hated the cliffhanger ending but it did leave me wanting to read the next book immediately as was I’m sure the intent.

One touch, one kiss, one night…can change everything. Join New York Times Bestseller C.J. Ellisson, Calinda B, Patricia A. Wolf and Lila Dubois for four stories of red-hot erotic romance and sexy paranormal magic. From encounters with a vampire, a birthday party gone wild, a super-hot male stripper who’s more than human, and a sexy new game at a BDSM club, this collection of stories has everything you need to spice up your spring.

 Kissed by a Vampire

By Patricia A. Wolf

Lost in passions Sarah never dreamed possible, she wonders if a seductive encounter could lead to something more. But when Michael stands her up, she realizes it was all a fantasy. Can a second chance meeting bring back the passions they once felt? Or will his vampire secret destroy everything?

The Beckoning of Beguiling Things

By Calinda B.

Can 24 hours really change your life? Marissa Engles is about to find out. When she heads to Las Vegas with her sisters and her best friend, she meets sexy, Thunder from Down Under dancer Chris King and hits the jackpot, in more ways than one. A secret magical society, an evil sorcerer, and a powerful male watching her from the sidelines add to the intrigue. And King himself has a dark secret that may prove Marissa’s undoing. Everything hinges on whether Marissa’s willing to leap without looking and face the consequences.

Loving Ms. Wrong

By C.J. Ellisson

Katrina attends a birthday party for her friend Carla. Little does the health food storeowner know that the fateful girls night out will change her life forever.

Marcus, the polished metrosexual who hates to get his hands dirty, stumbles upon the ladies at a local bar. Sparks fly when the two meet, courtesy of a 12-sided sex dice and a night neither one will ever forget.

 A is for…

By Lila Dubois

When the overseers of LA’s most exclusive BDSM club declare the start of a sexy new game that all members must play, Anna has no choice but to participate. Master Jensen knows who, and what, he wants—Anna—but before he can have her he’ll have to prove to the lovely submissive that he can master every letter of the alphabet.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT VOLUME TWO consists of four very different but equally enjoyable stories. The common elements were interesting women and sexy relationships.  In KISSED BY A VAMPIRE it was fun to watch Sarah step outside her comfort zone and just go for it when she meets the exciting, hot Michael. When they don’t get a follow up date to their night of passion, I think I was as sad as Sarah.  But like all good romance stories, Michael and Sarah get their happily ever after.  THE BECKONING OF BEGUILING THINGS was my least favorite but still a good read.  There was a lot of the story I didn’t think added to it and the reader is left with a huge cliff hanger.  I wanted to know what comes of Marissa, Jason and Chris King but not enough to rush out and buy the next book. LOVING MS. WRONG was my favorite.  I’ve enjoyed C.J. Ellisson’s books and was familiar with the series.  I really enjoyed seeing this glimpse into Katrina and Marcus’ lives.  It was great to watch the process of Marcus breaking down Katrina’s walls and teaching her to enjoy sex.  A IS FOR.. was interesting and very sexy and if you’re into the BDSM stories, this was a good foray into the genre.

This book is being sold at a ridiculously low price and is a great bargain at four or five time the price.  I definitely recommend it.

Mattie’s twin daughters have flown the nest, and she and her husband feel like strangers. The life she’s known is starting to fall apart. She can’t even count on her gorgeous neighbour, Nathaniel Diamond, any more. Nat was always there for her before, but now he’s suddenly started avoiding her. Is there something that he needs to tell her?

Carmichael is a very good writer. She’s written about a relevant topic in GOOD TOGETHER and given us likable characters we can identify with.  She does a good job describing ranch life in Montana and I liked the twist on the traditional ranch for Bishop Stables.  Mattie and Nat’s love affair has a solid foundation she never realized was being built over their years as neighbors.  Forced into an every changing reality with almost no control over events, Mattie deals with her life as most strong women would.  After mourning her marriage and former life, she starts to heal and move on.  Much of her healing must be done alone because of the isolation of ranch life but one constant in her life, Nat Diamond, continues to prove his dedication and friendship and eventually much more.

I found the story between Nat and Mattie a bit too slow moving.  The pace was likely realistic for the situation but as a romance novel, I’d have liked to see more of the love affair.  I also found several chapters focusing on the daughters, especially Portia, to be disjointed.  They seemed like filler with nothing to add to the book. Or at a minimum, incomplete because while we see glimpses into their lives, we never really get the conclusion.

The writing is excellent and the story is average.

Vanilla Twist (Walk on the Wild Side #3)VANILLA TWIST

Genre: Romance, Erotic Romance

Heather thinks she has it all—an interesting lover, a dream job, and a new wardrobe to match her take-charge attitude. But everyone has a past, and when Heather confronts hers at work she’ll be hard-pressed to hold onto her newfound confidence and resolve. Does she trust Tony enough to let him help her or will she tackle the issue on her own?

Still intrigued by the young woman and the multiple layers she presents to the world, Tony begins to change his life, too—for what he hopes is the better. He quit his high-powered career to find peace in a less stressful day-to-day existence. Desire for Heather still invades his every waking moment, and when trouble threatens their sexual explorations he makes the hardest choice of his life. One he may soon regret.

As with the other Ellisson books I’ve read, VANILLA TWIST is sexy, interesting and fun to read.  She creates real characters – most you’d like to get to know and some you’d like to slug.   The situations are realistic and, in the VANILLA books, completely unique.  Tony is hot, flirty and very successful but not full of himself like you’d expect.  Heather is like most of us – part accomplished, confident businesswoman and part insecure, inexperienced girl next door. Who, like Heather, hasn’t dreamed of leaving all their hang-ups behind and asserting a new self?  Just like Tony, I found Heather’s sometimes aggressiveness, sometimes shyness, very intriguing. It’s fascinating to watch her take control with Tony from their first meeting in VANILLA ON TOP and even more intriguing to watch them go through the fears and worries all new couples experience in VANILLA TWIST. The equality in their relationship allows them to switch things up and enjoy different scenarios, to each be vulnerable at times and dominate at others.  The stresses on their new relationship cause them a lot of angst and have the potential to break them apart leaving the reader nail-biting waiting to find out if they can make it through the tough times. These experiences are catalysts to each growing, becoming stronger and better and creating a firmer foundation for their love.

Unlike the plethora of BDSM books on the market lately, these two push some boundaries, try some new things and have a lot of steamy sex but never cross into the harsher world of domination, bondage or other “lifestyles”.  Their version of vanilla is most definitely not bland or boring.

I’m highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

From the New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author who brought you WAIT FOR ME comes the next emotional love story in Elisabeth Naughton’s bestselling Against All Odds Series:

He thinks he’s finally found the one.
Mitch Mathews never believed in love—at least not the happily-ever-after kind. Then he met Simone Conners. One night with the sexy lawyer made him reevaluate his priorities and look toward a future he never planned. The only hang-up is making her see it too.

She’s almost ready for a second chance.
What started out as a casual hook-up with a rugged geologist has turned into something a whole lot more. Simone’s on the verge of handing over her heart, but fear over what Mitch will say and do when he discovers who she used to be holds her back.

The past could destroy their future…
Just when Simone’s ready to take a chance on forever with Mitch, the secrets she’s been hiding from catch up with her. Suddenly it’s not just her life on the line, it’s his too. Forced into hiding, Mitch demands answers, and Simone realizes the only way to protect everything she holds dear is to delve into a past she’s spent years trying to forget. As they search for the truth, they discover secrets, lies, and a rekindled passion that burns hotter than before. But they also uncover a conspiracy that threatens the very fabric of society. One that could cost them more than just their future…it could cost them both their lives.

Books in the Against All Odds Series:
WAIT FOR ME (book 1)
HOLD ON TO ME (book 2)

Naughton’s books are always enjoyable and well written.  WAIT FOR ME, the first book in the series was a very touching, inventive love story.  In HOLD ON TO ME, I particularly enjoyed the relationship between Simone’s daughter, Shannon, and her lover, Mitch.  Mitch never pictured himself a father but is a natural with Shannon.  He is at ease with her, enjoys spending time together and misses her as much as Simone when they’re apart.  Shannon is equally taken with Mitch.

Following the typical love story guidelines, HOLD ON TO ME starts with the happy couple on the verge of taking their relationship to the next level when all hell breaks loose, literally.  While trying to avoid the murderers on Simone’s tail, Mitch and Simone waffle between the most intense, sincere love and the defeatist attitudes that convince them they’ll never find happiness.  A series of incredibly scary situations have the couple running for their lives.  Their lack of openness with each other threatens their lives and their love.

Naughton’s books are always enjoyable, well-rounded stories.  This is no exception though I didn’t find Mitch and Simone quite as gripping as Ryan and Kate from the first book. Naughton remains one of my “must read” favorites.

As a half-breed vampire, Ella Grey’s life sucks. She does her best to pass the time killing demons and secretly admiring her Shadow Hunter partner, Micah. He’s hot, dangerous and knows it. He’d be just Ella’s type if he weren’t likely to kill her the moment she put a toe out of line.

A chance encounter with a succubus changes everything. From the second the succubus’s spell washes over them, Ella and Micah are helpless to keep their hands off one another. The sex, when it’s not leaving them on the verge of death, is earth shattering and for the first time in ages Ella is connected with someone on a level she’d feared lost forever. But a dangerous prophecy has been set into motion, and if Ella’s not careful it’ll pull her straight from Micah’s arms and into the deepest bowels of the underworld.

A Romantica® Paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Publisher’s Note: This book was previously published under the title Blood Lust Rising. It has been revised and expanded for EC.

DARK CRAVINGS is the stellar debut novel from Madeline Pryce. The book starts with a fast-paced action scene and never slows down.  Ella and Micah are fascinating characters.  They are tough, fiercely independent and sexy as hell. Ella is no damsel in distress.  She trains just as hard, fights and kills demons right next to Micah.  Neither of them is looking for a relationship and they try hard to ignore or minimize their strong mutual attraction.  With a completely unexpected twist on the “waking up hung over and married” theme, they find themselves bonded as soul mates for life.  They also discover secrets about themselves and their loved ones that they, and we, never see coming.  Add a colorful cast of paranormal and human supporting characters, some of whom you love and some you can only hate, and you have a book that’s HOT, gritty, suspenseful, well rounded, action packed and anything except predictable.  I finished the book wishing there was another to delve right into.

Hannah Grey will do anything to escape the tortured memories haunting her. Every breath brings back the pain, the fear and the unbearable knowledge that she’ll never be the once-perfect girl everyone thought her to be. When the self-destructive fog of drugs, alcohol and meaningless sex starts to clear, Dante, a lion shifter sexier than sin itself, emerges through the darkness ready to rescue her for the second time in so many weeks.

In the safety of Dante’s embrace, Hannah allows herself to become the woman she’s always wanted to be—smart, sexy, capable and empowered. His every touch electrifies. His hot, hungry kisses set her senses ablaze. As Dante masters her body, Hannah finally finds the strength to master her fears.

Perfection shatters as a mysterious vampire escalates from anonymous phone calls to violent encounters. When Hannah’s enemies unite, placing both her and Dante in mortal peril, it’s going to take all of her new found strength to face the coming darkness and save the man she loves.

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Madeline Pryce earned her spot on my “must read” list with her first novel DARK CRAVINGS.  DARK INNOCENCE ensures she’ll remain there.  It was a real treat to see Hannah as someone far more complex and stronger than she seemed in DARK CRAVINGS.  She’s an impressive young woman with far more depth than anyone every notices.  Dante is sexy and genuinely nice despite his macho exterior.  He takes time to ensure Hannah is protected and to be her nonjudgmental safe harbor while she continues to hope the drugs and alcohol will dull her pain.  Both have reservations about their age difference.  When Hannah finally decides she wants Dante for more than a friend and throws herself at him things don’t go as she’d planned.  It’s not a lack of mutual attraction that keeps the friends from amping up their relationship. Dante is perfect for Hannah because he’s not only willing to fight to ensure her safety.  He’s also uniquely able to support her new-found strength as she battles a madman.  When the two finally do consummate their relationship, it’s HOT.

Pryce is an amazing storyteller who can write the hottest erotica within fascinating paranormal stories full of action, tension and romance.
