Lexi’s life is one big dump. Or so she thinks. To keep her mind off her latest breakup, she stays busy with work. It’s no big deal, since writing for Time Out Portland Magazine is a blast…except for the one small snag – Grant Reeds.Grant, a shy but sexy computer geek, is new to Time Out, working as the Networking Director for the online magazine. Even though Lexi thinks he doesn’t notice her, he sure as hell does. The owners have a plan for their upcoming Valentine’s Special, pairing up the two to explore romantic date ideas around the city.

Soon, Lexi and Grant learn that the old adage, “Opposites Attract,” can ring true.

This was a sweet and sexy novella. I enjoyed the two main characters, Lexi and Grant.  They each were wonderful with their own little quirks. Ms. Dozier brings a lightheartedness (yes my made up word), to opposites attract.  I look forward to reading more from Melinda Dozier

Andromeda’s Fall by Abigail Owen

Abigail Owen

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press, Inc

Published Date: December 10, 2014

Genre: Paranormal Contemporary Romance

Book Description (As per Amazon)

December 10, 2014
Andromeda Reynolds is being hunted. After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of a pack of wolf shifters, Andie has devoted her life to protecting her community of cougar shifters from a similar fate. But now, a greater threat lies within her own pack, and she must run. If she stays, Kyle Carstairs will force their mating, seeking the added political power their union would provide.Andie would rather chew off her own foot than end up with Kyle. Though, knowing him, she won’t live long either way. Andie’s only hope of survival is to mate Jaxon Keller, the Alpha of the Keller Dare with which she is seeking asylum. But before she can get to him, Andie must first go through A.J., one of the Alpha’s Protectors. What Andie doesn’t realize is that A.J. has secrets of his own. All Andie knows is that the incredibly frustrating shifter insists on challenging her story, her skills, her trust… and her heart.
My Thoughts:
I was given this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. While Abigail Owen is a new to me author, PNR is not. I thoroughly enjoy PNR and shifters in particular. Our main character Andromeda (Andie) isn’t your female in distress type. Thank heavens for that. She has a smart mouth and movements to back them up! She’s a tough chic. After witnessing her mother’s murder, she vows not to let anyone else die.
The characters are well formed, but it’s a plot that has been played a few times before. Even with that being said I found AF a very fast paced read. Only one steamy sexy scene was actually in print. Most were left up to our imaginations. Which I believe will make it catching to a wider group of readers. I am intrigued to read the next in this Shadowcat Nation Series.

***WARNING: Contains Adult Content (explicit love scenes, profanity, and some violence)***Delve into a world steeped in tradition and superstition…
After her parents become infected with the Red Death, Lucy Yeoh flees to Malaysia seeking answers. Everything in this closed-off section of the world is paradise—from the lush tropical climate to her sexy new neighbor, Sheng…who just might be delusional. He claims the Plague God unleashed the Red Death and only a circle of Chinese Zodiac spirit animals can cleanse the Earth. Even more, he insists she’s one of them: the Rabbit. Long furry ears and fluffy bunny tail included. He’ll show her how to fight to save the world…
As the Chosen of the Tiger, the burden of restoring balance to the world has fallen onto Li Sheng’s shoulders. When he discovers that the ally he’s long awaited, the Dragon, is actually just the Rabbit, Sheng is quick to dismiss Lucy. If only she’d stay dismissed. Lucy’s Rabbit refuses to cooperate, undermining the authority of his Tiger at every turn…and seducing him to the limits of his darkest desires. He’s not supposed to want her. Not when he needs the spirit circle complete and she’s their weakest link. She’ll show him a love worth fighting the world to save…
Sheng’s enemies draw closer, and not everyone wants Lucy alive. Together, they’ll have to navigate a treacherous world where a line between duty and their hearts has been drawn between them. They must either sacrifice one, or find a way to surrender to both.

Absolutely fabulous! Engaging, riveting, sexy as all get out. .. on the edge of your seat Oy! If life wouldn’t have gotten in my way, I would have read it in one sitting, I didn’t want to put it down. I loved everything from the main and secondary characters, to the plot, and I will admit a bit of a paranormal snob. One of my favorite parts in a PNR is the scents that are explained, and they had heart at the descriptive scents. I wasn’t sure if I could relate or understand it all, as I am not that familiar with Asian cultures etc. but, Ms. Slate hooked me straightaway.   Sheng (tiger)  is the ultra sexy Alpha male, who has been told Lucy (Rabbit) is totally off limits.  Lucy, can feel the chemistry with Sheng, and wants to deny her feelings.  This love story is one of teacher, trainer and eventually a fabulous lover.  Honestly, I  can’t wait for the next book in the series, which thankfully comes out this year! Kudos to her on her novel debut!

Book Description:  (from Amazon)

Publication Date: November 3, 2014

Werewolf Aribella Lupari-Gray is on her long-awaited honeymoon. Or at least, that was the plan. When she and Mason land in Ireland just before Christmas, their dream holiday turns into a nightmare: the pack’s werewolf children have all vanished.

To top it off, the werewolf king—who was supposed to sanctify Ari’s marriage to a human—is away searching for the missing pups and may not return in time to grant his official blessing, jeopardizing her family’s future status within the pack.

If things don’t change fast, there may not even be a marriage to bless. Ari’s desire to help puts her life—and her relationship with Mason—in jeopardy. With Mason gone, presumably back to the States and Christmas on the doorstep, Ari sets out on one final mission to find the lost pups. Her life and the pack’s young in the balance, will Ari be able to perform a holiday miracle or will she die trying?
My Thoughts:
This is my very first book of Dylan Newton, and I am so already caught up in the writing style.  Ari is the Alpha female and with her shapeshifter husband travel to Ireland to have their marriage blessed so that their children could be able to take their respective places in the pack. While over in Ireland, they are brought into the disappearance of all the young ones. Ari is known for being the best tracker. While not giving this away, the story is full of twists and turns and doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to reading more of this author.

The Angel of Death by Blair C. Babylon

The Angel of Death:  Blair C. Babylon

Publisher: Malachite Publishing LLC

Published Date:  December 23, 2014

Genre:  Mystery/Suspense

Source:  I was provided a copy by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Book Description (As per Amazon)

To protect and to serve, or to save her own brother?Angel Day, the lead sniper for the Phoenix Police Department, got her nickname “The Angel of Death” the old-fashioned way: she earned it for her ruthless efficiency at stopping crimes with one well-placed bullet. When a massive call-out down by the Mexican Border reveals a terrorist cell and turns into a standoff, Angel’s youngest brother, the lost soul of her family, texts her that he is inside that barricaded house, and her orders are to shoot anything that moves.
My Thoughts:

This is my first experience with this author and this series. I found I was on the edge of my seat throughout a good portion of the story. Angel Day is a police sniper for the Phoenix PD.  She comes by her nickname Angel of Death honestly as it is part of her job.  She is the lead sniper of her squad, and keeps them well-trained and on their toes.  With Angels job, and the riskiness of it, her family and extended family keep close tabs on her.  She gets nervous when she hasn’t heard from her brother.  After her team and the rest of the SAU are sent to southern Arizona for a standoff incident, her stress intensifies when she realizes one of the shooters inside is her wayward brother.  Angel is certainly put through the test of family versus job in the book.  Where it will end up for her is left for our author to tell you.  I kept anticipating the outcome, and I was pleasantly surprised I was wrong each time.  The ending isn’t one that I saw coming.   The characters, both primary and secondary were ones everyone could relate to.  Their depth was more than just what you would see on the top so to speak.  Each was well established either while they were alive or after they had died.  This story was filled with emotion from laughter to to udder horror.  There isn’t anything I didn’t care for in the book.  I can’t wait for the next book in the series to be released.

Review: This Christmas by Katlyn Duncan

This Christmas

 Katlyn Duncan

Genre: Romance

Source: Received for an honest review from the publisher

Book Description (from Amazon)

Publication Date: November 18, 2014
This year, if Hadley wrote her dream Christmas list, it would go something like this:
1. Spend every waking – and sleeping – moment with her incredibly gorgeous boyfriend, Will.2. Figure out what’s been bugging him lately. Yes, going away to college has been tough…but it’s time they reconnected.3. Enjoy a sparkling Christmas in New York City, gazing at the Rockefeller tree, going ice skating, and drinking steaming mugs of cocoa in Central Park. So, driving off to spend Christmas in a rustic cabin in the woods wasn’t exactly the plan. But when it comes to her irresistible, and at times, impossible boyfriend, nothing’s ever that simple. And as fantasies of an icy Times Square are replaced by a clumsily decorated tree, making snowmen and the warmth of a log fire, Hadley feels herself falling in love all over again.Except does Will have something to tell her that could change Hadley’s happily-ever-after Christmas dreams into a not-so-winter wonderland after all?Don’t miss this festive sequel novella to This Summer

This Christmas is a sweet holiday novella.  While this is a follow-up of Hadley and Will becoming a couple, I found it could be read as a stand alone.  Hadley who is just coming off finals for the seasonal is excited to spend time with Will.  I found myself wondering through most of the novella what was up with Will.  I get guys can be broody, but to me it was a bit much.  The few days leading up to Christmas they venture to a cabin for some “us” time, and to hopefully to have the perfect holiday.  Hadley senses something is off with Will, who ends up with a big confession.  I will let you read to find out if what he has to tell her will crush her, or truly make ‘This Christmas ‘ perfect

Review: Ex-Ray by Claire Croxton

 Claire Croxton

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

 Book Description (from Amazon)

 Publication Date: October 24, 2014
The isolation of Alaska’s arctic is the perfect place to hide. But you can’t outrun your past. Maggie Shaw flees an abusive husband and assumes a new life as Anne Sutton, a 911 emergency dispatcher. Her ex, Ray Malloy, a meth-dealing, dirty cop with a vicious temper and a powerful right hook, is determined to find her and the three million in drug money she stole. Using her computer hacking skills, Anne is able to stay one step ahead of Ray until he goes off the grid. Even though she lives her life with the constant threat of discovery, she’s eventually able to form deep friendships and even falls in love again–with Joe Carducci, the new cop in town. When Ray shows up in Barrow, Anne must overcome her fears in order to protect her friends from Ray’s violence.
Anne is a 911 operator in a relatively small Arctic town.  She is there to hide from her abusive husband.  Even though it’s been four years, she still tries to keep tabs on him.  Ray is a dirty drug making sheriff deputy and is using all his resources to find his missing wife who ran off with his drug money.
This book is a smidge predictable, but other than that is very well written.  Slowly throughout the story we learn more about Anne’s past and what led her to flee her job and friends behind.  When a new officer moves to Barrow, Alaska Anne’s senses are all awakened after quite a long slumber.  While Joe and Anne learn to deal with their haunted past, their romance heats up to a spicy level.  The spice and suspense actually bland well together.  I would recommend Ex-Ray to those who like those two mixed together.

Tess Dougherty plans every aspect of her life right down to the last detail. But she doesn’t plan on running her boyfriend off by bringing up the topic of marriage before he’s ready. And she doesn’t plan to lose her job on the day she’s set to receive a huge promotion. So when her perfect world unravels, Tess makes a new plan: disappear.Tess packs her bags and leaves her city apartment for a remote vineyard in North Carolina. At first, she’s put off by the slow pace of small-town life in the South. She’s especially irritated by Thatcher, the vineyard’s smart-mouth, dimple-faced farmhand. But she soon begins to appreciate the area’s charm, and Thatcher’s charm, too. She even swaps her trademark heels for a pair of cowboy boots. As Tess spends more time getting to know Thatcher, she finds herself loosening her grip on her old life little by little. Unfortunately, things on the vineyard aren’t as simple as they seem. There’s a secret here, and when the truth comes to light, Tess is forced to reconsider every plan she’s ever made.
Tess in Boots is a honestly refreshing light romance.  Tess Dougherty is a true planner, from the clothes she chooses to wear and the wedding she has planned since forever.  One problem is her boyfriend Logan doesn’t seem to be in a rush to propose.  Her breaking point is when she believes he is going to, she is once again let down on her hopes of getting married.
Tess’s twin brother Jake uses his twin abilities, sensing something is off with his sister and begs Tess to help him out briefly with his new Vineyard venture.  After packing up her so-called life and heading to Jake’s remote vineyard, she believes it will make Logan miss her and really WANT to marry her.  Once there she is met with Thatcher, a frustrating, sarcastic friend of Jake’s and his wife Sara.  Tess makes a vow to herself that whatever that tingle she is feeling is just an innocent crush.  This once high heel wearing put together girl, switches things up for a pair of cowboy boots, and planning weddings for other brides.
Will Tess ever have her own wedding with Logan? Or, will those tingles for Thatcher be the start of a new planning path for her? Once she is able to figure out all the secrets that are being kept from her, she will know what the next move in her plan should be.
